About Safe Space Staging

Safe Space Staging was created to help children feel more prepared and supported in real world environments that can often feel overwhelming.

The organization was founded from personal experience navigating the challenges of preparing a child with autism for everyday situations like medical visits, dental appointments, and other high sensory environments. It became clear that many children need more than explanation. They need the chance to practice and become familiar with these experiences in a way that feels safe.

What We Do

We provide hands on workshops, training, and realistic setups for schools, organizations, and families. These experiences help children feel more confident and prepared before entering real life environments.

What Makes Us Different

We use real tools, not toys, and focus on practical, real life preparation. Our approach is designed to reduce stress, support smoother transitions, and build confidence for both children and caregivers.

Founder's Story

Safe Space Staging was created from personal experience as a parent navigating the challenges of preparing a child with autism for real world environments. Through that journey, it became clear that many children need more than explanation. They need the chance to experience and practice in a way that feels safe and familiar.

My personal journey, marked by the loss of my son's father and a period of homelessness, has been a testament to resilience and empowerment. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the profound impact sensory overload can have on a child, particularly in autism.

A Transformative Experience: The Foundation of Safe Space Staging

An incident at the airport, where my son faced a sensory meltdown, became a turning point. A kind flight attendant's gesture of guiding us to a quieter space on the plane was a moment of awakening. This experience inspired the creation of Safe Space Staging, with a vision to design supportive, sensory-friendly environments for children like my son.

Leveraging Expertise for Sensory-Friendly Solutions

Drawing from my background in luxury fashion management and a passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces, I founded Safe Space Staging. Our goal is to ease the challenges of sensory overload for children with autism, making everyday experiences more enjoyable and manageable.

Our Approach

We support both organizations and families. Schools, therapy centers, and community programs can book workshops and training. Parents and caregivers can schedule one on one consultations to receive guidance and better understand how to prepare their child for everyday situations and emergency scenarios.

As part of this support, we guide families in creating a personalized Ready Set Backpack based on their child’s sensory, communication, comfort, and safety needs.

Credibility

Kathy is a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador, supporting emergency preparedness efforts for families.

Partnership

Safe Space Staging collaborates with Mom Services to support families and children with additional guidance and expertise.
